Thanks for all of your help folks.Sorry it took a while but for me it was lack of confidence with the iron and a fear of the unknown.

It may seem odd but I've never played in the middle position without both vol pots up full so I've never experienced the thing where each volume pot will ground out the other one if turned down. I know this is how they are supposed to be now so it is all good :O)

The pickups are really good sounding, got a nice growl to them. Check out

Please have a look and let me know the easiest solution.

That is known colloquially as "50s wiring" and allows you to control volume of each pickup independently when in the middle position. Unfortunately, your guitar will hum if you turn the volume down. There is a way to get independent volumes without hum but it requires a complete rewire, and pickups with at least two conductor plus shield leads.

I disagree, you can do it that way, but not disireable.
You don't want the pickup wired to the wiper of the volume, like he originally had it wired.
This is how you do 50s wiring.
You move the cap to the wiper of volume not the Pickup.
There's a typo on this diagram.
It shows 2 Bridge Vol. Pots.
The one on the Right is bridge tone.
Not 50s wiring, its called indendant tone, I tried it, I don't like it.
