  • rickenbacker pickup problem (microphonics)

A friend of mine just got a 650S Sierra. He wanted single-coil pickups in it, as opposed to the humbuckers that come in it. We ordered some High-gains and put them in Using the original gold covers. Somewhere along the line I must have done something wrong because the guitar has tons of microphonic feedback. My 660 has some (which I would like to get rid of if possible), but this is completely un-controlable. Could the Pick-up covers be slightly different? (the actual pickup doesn't seem as tight as it should be in there). Is wax potting an option on the hi-gains (his) or the toasters (mine)? I have never had this problem with any other Rick, so I'm assuming I caused it. Thanks!!

My first thought is it's the covers. If they or the pickups are able to vibrate, you will get feedback. You could wax pot them if they aren't already.
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein
