    That's one great thing about contemporary music. There's so many different ways to get a different sound and every artist gets to take what they like, or even reinvent.

    I use heavy picks. The normal polyester stuff that's like plastic. I like the Dunlop picks too. Better for pinch harmonics and I use thinner ones for airy chording on acoustics.

    I also tune a half step low. It helps put the snap back in. If I had to play tuned to pitch all the time I would probably play 10 to 42. But I prefere the bigger feel and sound of the heavier strings tuned down.

      Vive la difference! Once you get used to the rich sound of thicker strings, it's awfully hard to go back, but I do know more than a few guitarists who love 9's for the same reason as Dave.
