  • Dunlop Fretwire size differences

    Hey Folks,

I hope everybody had a Good Christmas and a great New Year.

I wanted to ask if anyone has experienced getting dunlop 6000 wire that seems smaller than the Dunlop 6100?

Originally I had ordered some Dunlop 6100 wire from a popular source and recently switched over to another source to get some Dunlop 6000 but after comparing the Dunlop 6000 to the 6100 the 6000 seems a bit thinner.

I had ran into this same issue back about 8 or 9 months back when ordering 2 necks from a well known source and one neck had the Dunlop 6000 and the other had 6100 and the same issue, the 6100 looks a tad bit wider than the 6000.

I was wondering if the 6000 got smaller over the years? I had a strat neck made back around 2003 that had the Dunlop 6000 and the fretwire was alot bigger back then.

Also where can someone get that bigger size fretwire like the older 90s Charvels had on them?

    Thanks

    Slo

Here's a chart of fret sizes:

    Fretwire chart

    6000 is .118 x .058, 6100 is .110 x .055. So the 6000 wire is wider and higher.
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein
