  • New lace alumitones....

Anyone know much about, or have experience with those new alumitone humbucker pickups? i understand the advantage is they are lighter and look cool, but what do they do for you that normal humbuckers dont. (or are they inferior)

    What would make something inferior?

They are just different. The shiny aluminum structure you see is actually the coil for the pickup. They are current based pickups, not voltage, and are basically a single turn coil made from aluminum. They are very low impedance, and require a small audio transformer to step up the level to use with regular guitar amps.

Because they are low impedance, they will have a very clean bright sound. Very hi-fi.

I haven't heard them in person, but I heard some clips on a web site and they sounded like very bright Strat pickups. Guitar player reviewed a guitar with them and didn't seem to like them too much. They thought they were too thin sounding for the jazz style of guitar they were in.
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein
