  • fretless conversion: veneering ebony fingerboard

Using a maple veneer to fill slots in an ebony fretboard, I can glue the veneer with 1) end grain up or 2) tangent to fingerboard radius.
What you prefer? I think grain up have a plus: after the main veneer glueing in slots (I use titebond) you can fill the end grain with superglue obtaining better penetration (and protection for the future).
    What do you think?
    Thanks

If you glue it with the grain running up and down, it will probably expand at some point. I did it once with the grain running sideways and it seemed to work ok. Some people use styrene plastic to fill the slots.

I used Titebond. These days I glue fingerboards on with epoxy.
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein
