  • audiophool or cool?

quick, someone call Eric Johnson immediately!

    http://oyaide.com/neo/products/phono_plug.html

some of what the page says (not 100% on the technical terms) :

"CNC milled one-piece construction...made to JEITR standard(same as Switchcraft)...plug portion is brass...non-magnetic non-electrolytic nickel plating...tip to sleeve insulator made of Teflon...internal insulator made of Bakelite" blahblahblah

I'll probably stick with the regular stuff (Switchcraft, Neutrik, Canare), but those plugs sure look neat.

        Thanks, Dai.

Those prices are much better than I expected. Most of the time "audiophile" gear carries a pretty steep price. $400 beech wood knobs, anyone?

Those plugs look exactly like switch craft plugs, with turned aluminum shells. I bet that's all they are.

Oh, you've seen that also! Crazy nonsense! That and the $80 little nail polish size bottle of lacquer, that you are supposed to paint on all your audio gear to make it sound better!

So if the $400 knobs are supposed to sound better because they don't resonate... no knobs would be best of all, right?

One site was selling this black varnish the guy made, that he claimed when painted on your plastic cased IC's made them sound warm like tubes!

Lessons on how to separate fools from their money! Snake oil anyone?
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein

            upon comparison:

            http://oyaide.com/neo/images/P-series03.jpg

            http://www.e-imi.jp/img_item/img-000016.jpg

            http://www.schoolmusic.co.kr/shop/et...t/sc280-30.jpg

they do appear to be different (they are advertised as being "made in japan" and not mexico or whereever it is that Switchcraft makes their plugs now), but I can't imagine it being significantly better mechanically or sonically, so in that respect (again) I don't really see a great value, but maybe Eric Johnson will prove non-golden ear'ed plebian folk like me wrong!
