guitar bulid info for a beginner...

Hello all,
I have been feeling the desire to get a telecaster for awhile now, and my intrest in amp building has now spilled over to this. So my aim is to assemble my own telecaster. Any books or website reccomendations would be helpfull. i am also really interested in the wiring of the control panel and the various options available, so thoughts on this where i could learn from would be most appreciated.

I would like to learn about painting as well, for i will most likely have to vintage tint and nitro the neck to body so it all matches up nicely..

I am going into this to make what will be "my guitar", and that is something more special and important to me than buying from the store rack.

Any information and thoughts to help me, and i hope others interested in their own guitar builds, would be most wellcome and appreciated.

If you want to build a Tele from scratch, I mean really from scratch, that mim forum is a good place. Here is another good place.

Project Guitar is another good source. If you don't care to do the woodworking and would rather just paint it and screw it together, Grizzly has a couple of kits at reasonable prices.

I am not into working on guitars, but I did build a Tele partscaster out of junk I bought on Ebay and with help and parts from my guitar guru. It cost about $200. It sounds and plays great but the only problem with it is that it is real neck heavy. My buddy Kerry suggested putting some lead shot in the control cavity to balance it out. I might try some different tuners too.

tele info and pickups

thanks everyone for the links, i got a lot of reading to do!!!
and i just placed the order for my butterscotch blonde 52' styled Alder body.
this is awesome, i am going to learn so much more on guitars, and assemble my own.

Anyone have any thoughts on pickups??
I was looking at lollar and lindy fralin. the local shop brings in Nash guitars and they sport lollars. I have heard a lot of postive word on Fralins, and Callaham has them, and i was thinking of getting parts from them anyways.
Lollars Charlie Christian sounds interesting though.

I put a set of Fralin Blues Specials in a Tele for a customer. They sounded good to me. Had a bit more oomph than the Duncans the guitar came with, which were more stock sounding.

I have to add my "Tele"...
