P.S. I put this post in the Guitar Tech forum because it is usually guitar techs mixing and matching pickups but other mods are welcome to copy this post for their own forums, perhaps as a closed sticky (assuming that the information is mostly correct.)

I encourage pickup winders to use the Seymour Duncan Color Code.
That way everyone can use the great SD wiring diagrams.

I agree about using SD color codes! This is more for guitarists and their techs who want to mix and match pickups from different vendors. With the polarity and wind direction they should be able to avoid phase issues.
(I was looking up Gibson codes as I am replacing the single conductor braided leads on their 490R and 498T pickups w/ some nice 4 conductor wire from Mojotone.)

Honey Badger colors as of posting date:

P 4/5/6-string: white=hot, black=gnd
J 4/5/6-string:white=neck hot, red=bridge hot, black=gnd
Heavy Hitters 4/5/6-string:white=neck hot, red=bridge hot, black=gnd, green=magnet gnd (connect to common ground)
TFD's 4/5/6-string: white=neck hot, red=bridge hot, black=gnd


As one who also builds basses, there's nothing more frustrating than working in a tight control cavity (think top routed J-bass) and grabbing the wrong hot lead when soldering up the pickups. White was chosen for the neck hot due to the fact that all of our basses have at least one pickup, and this is typically mounted in the neck position.
