  • Les paul nut slots - fanned or straight?

How do you cut your Les Paul nut slots - fanned out (looking from the front) or straight? Either way the string has to bend towards the post - the difference is it does this on the leading edge of the nut if fanned, or the trailing edge if not. I can't rationalize if one or the other is better for minimizing friction and can't say that in practice it makes much difference, at least with a bone nut.

I've never had one that was fanned...My Takamine is made the same way, 3 on a side angled down like a les, I cut it straight. Old Harmony is 6 on a side angled down, nut was cut straight from the factory, ditto for Cort CL1500 factory nut.
Why do I drive way out here to view the wildlife when all the animals live in town?
