EMG H3/H3a Wiring Problem / Asking for Help!

Hello,

I removed all original electronics from an Explorer (2 Vol/1 Tone/Toggle Switch) to replace it with the passive solderless wiring PU's EMG H3/H3a.

I really did it exactly like on the EMG Diagram attached. Sounded horribly. Too much noise and the neck PU hardly hearable.

It worked better as I turned around the connectors going to the bus on the neck and bridge pots, but still a very muffling sound with lots of buzz. (I changed the polarity only at the pots / please see attached pic)

Is the EMG diagram wrong?
Do more parts have to be grounded, like the electronic bus?

Any suggestions appreciated.

PS: Please don't overlook the grounding wire at the bridge vol pot.

I looked at the emg installation.

They appear to be regular passive pickups, so I would trouble shoot like regular passives.
Plug in a cord into the guitar jack.
Read ohms from cord to the switch.
Then flip the switch each way and see if you can read from cord to the volume.
With the volume turned all the way up, check ohms from jack to each pickup.

+1 to divide and conquer.
Are the cables long enough to plug either pickup directly into the 'master tone module' bypassing most of the circuitry? Or plugging the output jack cable directly into a pickup vol pot unit?

I didn't measure the values, since I got no device for that,
but on every (vol vol tone) pot is printed: "250K 500K"
