  • Mandolin Hum

How can i get rid of the hum coming from my mandolin single coil pickup? Its a newer fender style. I have it running into a wireless system and a small solid state guitar amp. I think i need to change the pots because when i turn the volume down it crackles and i loose the sound . I tried to clean the pots but it didn't help.

    thanks

Single coil pickups hum. You can try to add shielding to the mandolin, it might make it better, but you will never have a single coil that doesn't hum.

Best bet is to replace the pickup with a humcancling unit that fits into a single coil housing. There's lots of them for Strats and the like.
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein
