Help wiring pickups.

Hey, I'm new here, and a bit of an electronics n00b. I'm making my guitar (Ibanez S470) HH config. with two concentric tone/vol pots and a 3 way switch. Using the Ibanez wiring diagrams, I've identified the colour coding on my pickups, and I've found a suitable diagram for everything except the switch.

I haven't found any info at all on the type of switch I have, which is with 8 lugs simply in a line, like this: 00000000, and numbered 1-8. How should I wire a 3-way switch like this for 2 HBs with individual vol. pots?

Is it like a Strat switch?

You have two sides of the switch.. it's a double pole switch. So for each half you have the one common terminal, and one for each switch position. And then it repeats for the other side.

You can usually tell the common because it has a longer wiper that touches the part of the switch that moves. If you have a meter, you can hold it on the first lug, and then touch the others for each switch position to see what connects to what.

This is for a Tele with two volumes, but it uses the same switch, and shows how to wire the volume pots to the switch.

This doesn't show any tone controls, but you can wire them up like any other guitar. Just remember to wire them to the volume controls, before the switch.

Sounds like your switch is the cheep-o encased plastic switch. The '4' and '5' lugs are the common lugs for each half of the switch. Run your pickups to their individual tone/vol pots, then you'll need to do some experimenting. Connect the '4' and '5' lugs together and connect that to the output jack. Off the cuff, I'd connect one pickup to lugs '1' and '2', that should get you that pickup in two positions on the switch. The other pickup is going to be connected to either '6' and '7' , or '7' and '8'. try them and see.
