  • RG1527 Noise Machine! please help..

    Hi,

I play on a Ibanez RG1527 with two humbuckers. The guitar hiss a lot and the noise is killing me If I touch the strings the noise decreases. I can also regulate the amount of hiss with the tone pot. I've attached a schematic showing the setup.

It's not the amp i use since I've tried the guitar with other amps. I've also tried other guitars with my amps.

Any suggestions how to solve this?

btw, the guitar is shielded with "shielding-paint" from the factory.

    Best regards

Sounds to me like a classic symptom of the bridge not being properly grounded. On the schematic, you'll see a wire labeled "To Bridge Ground". Make sure that the connection of that wire is solid, both on the end that's soldered to the pot body and the end that is connected to the bridge. The bridge must have a good connection to ground or exactly what you describe will occur. Start with that.If it looks good, then check all the ground connections starting at the output jack through the rest of the circuit.

      Thanks Spud,

I've checked the ground connections from bridge to jack and nothing is wrong there. Next, I've tried to replace the thin factory ground wire with a thick solid wire, did nothing

If I change pickup the noise also change. If I turn the tone pot in bass position the noise also "decrease" (becomes somehow lower).

      Thanks

The guitar needs better shielding. Sometimes just soldering a new ground wire from the pots to the jack helps (leaving what was already there.

If the control compartment is shielded with conductive paint, you have to be sure the paint is grounded.

It wouldn't hurt to get some foil under all the pots and ground that too.
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein

Hi David, thanks for your reply!

I've now soldered a thick solid ground wire from the bridge, through the pots, to the jack. I've shielded the pot cabinet with thick aluminium foil. Did nothing to the noise at all!

          Any other suggestions?

Have you tried using a different cable?

              earth

what you have is just simply a bad earth somewhere, some solder joints can become dry over time, re-solder the whole guitar.
