hi people, ok mate bought a fender jaguar reissue mij. its got a perminant hummmm going on, touch any metal part or the strings and it goes away. ok, so i open up the control plate and the earth for the jack socket aint wired up, in fact never been soldered on (this guitar is new)!!!. ok so done that thinking thats it but it still stayed the same. go to fenders website and check all wiring against the diagram, all fine, redone all the earths and copper shielded inside all cavities and put a overhang so the shielded pickguard and the metal control covers makes contact with the cavities and the coppershielding is earthed back to the pot,so everything is making contact. checked the earth on the pickup claws and all solid. redone the bridge earth and again solid. still have the same problem.changed the jack socket, changed the pots, still the same. am i missing somthing thats obvious in these guitars? tried through different amps and leads but always the same. i know im probably going to get posts saying recheck earths but i have a billion times and redone them. i know its all pointing to an earthing problem but anyone else have any other ideas who are familier with this guitar? cheers jas

The Jaguar basses have the same hum issue, but in their case is a bad connection between two shields.
Fender needs to pay a visit to what ever factory is making these things.
It's like the Geddy Less Jazz bass... he complained to them that the tuners they were using were crap, so they changed them.
I get the feeling that profit is more important than quality at Fender these days.It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein

your right david, the most disturbing thing i find about fender strats these days, the mij ones is fret work,(leveling) is absolute crap, lost count of how many i have had to fretdress in the last couple of years not to mention shims under the neck. i done a fender tele reissue this week, the one with a double binding body, action was ridiculously high and still buzzing choking out, serious leveling done.
Although i own some commercial guitars, well 3, im very fussy for what im paying for, fortunatley i make my own guitars to the standard i want/desire, just finished one, its a 1 piece body (olive ash) check it out here

I've seen the very same thing with US Strats too. I had a few brand new US Strats brought to me to have the frets leveled and dressed. On one the owner was so fussy and wanted the action so freakin' low that I ended up removing the frets and leveling the rosewood board, and refretting.
I got them so low with no buzzing that he actually wanted the action raised a bit!
But welcome to the world of factory guitars made for profit. The sad part is that between Fender and Gibson, they own most of the US competition. Gibson hasn't had a good track record in that aspect... just look at Op Code, Tobias, and Steinberger. At least they sold Trace Elliot back to the previous owners.
Fender seems to be doing a better job with SWR, Guild, Ovation, etc.It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein
