  • help/advise please :-)

Does anyone know what value capacitors or resistors are best to take the top end off my guitar? My guitar has a very bright sound and would like to know what i would need to kill some of it.I dont want to change the pickups or any hardware. My guitar also has no tone control and i dont want to fit one instead of my rotary control. The guitar has 2 humbuckers a volume switch and a rotary switch. think like a prs setup. Idea's please would be much appreciated.

Part of the reason it's so bright is you have no pots.

Why don't you want to change the pickups, if it's too bright? That's part of the problem! You really need less bright pickups.

You can try a 250K resistor between hot and ground to simulate a volume and tone pot, and maybe a 0.02uF cap in series with a 100K resistor between hot and ground to roll off some top end. Try the plain resistor first, and then add the resistor/cap combo. it it's too much top end cut, try a larger resistor, maybe 150K, or 220K. You can also vary the value of the cap, from higher cut to lower try: 0.005, 0.01, 0.02, 0.047 (0.05), 0.01.
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein
