  • Capacitor Placement in Telecaster Wiring

I am building my first PartsCaster and while looking through different wiring diagrams I am noticing different placement of tone capacitors. Why do some put the capacitor from the output (middle) lug on the volume pot to lug 3 on the tone pot and then to ground. while other diagrams simply have the capacitor from the lug 3 on the tone pot to the tone pot casing? I am using a Chopper T bridge pickup (railed humbucker) and a dimarzio true velvet single coil neck pickup.

    Pot casing is ground.

My thinking is the OP is referring to a regular Telecaster where the difference is in whether the capacitor connects between the volume and tone pot, or whether the pots are hard wired together and the cap is soldered between the tone pot lug and ground. The connections are either volume pot>cap>tone pot>ground or volume pot>wire link>tone pot>cap>ground. Either way just changes the series connection of the tone pot and cap, no audible difference and either way is equally valid.
