Can anyone help with a charge/degauss setup?

Hi all,

Can anyone here describe what I need for a proper Bar Magnet charging station and seperate (or same) Degauss station? I've done plenty of searching and there isnt really any good instructions out there. I have a McMaster Carr account so I can easily order magnets from there if someone can suggest a part number. I have the small stewmac Neo's (the round ones) and I could not figure out where and how to move the magnet to get a good charge. I ended up with bar magnets with one edge with multiple poles.

I'm wanting to take about 100 gauss off an A5 magnet, and or be able to charge them from De-magnetized.

You can affect the strength of AlNiCo magnets in a few ways. Just pulling them apart has some effect - I'm told upwards 15% reduction in strength when pulling them off of a "brick" of pre-charged magnets. Forcing like poles together is another way to partially degauss them. You'll need to experiment for yourself to find the best ways for what you're after.

The MAG24C charger will charge them up just fine.

Belwar, you probably need a charging circuit even with neos. I'd get a cheap cast iron vise about 3" wide and stick your neos on to that and then slip the bars through between the jaws without letting them touch. If your puny Stewmac neo's aren't up to it, just get a big 1/2" x 1" x 2" neo from Allstar or whoever else sells them. I use 1/4" x 1/4" x 2" neos to degauss but it doesn't take much. The big block with flip polarity on alnico 2 and 3 if you aren't careful. Use the green magnet "paper" to see what you've done afterwards.
