    If the wire was small enough it would cause some attenuation; crossovers complicate the situation a bit, too. You are right, you should avoid very small wire in a speaker. But you can leave the 008 to the electrical contractor and the audiophile(phool)!

      There is some variation, yes. At audio frequencies, it is the capacitance that matters. The capacitance per foot is proportional to 1/(ln(D/d)), ln is natural log, D is the inner diameter of the outer conductor, d the diameter of the inner conductor. Because of the log, it is hard to change things too much, and it is a ratio that matters, not the absolute size. It also depends on the dielectric constant, that is, depends on the type of plastic; so it is hard to tell from the outside. The cable from the guitar to the amp is the longest, and it is what matters the most.
