  • Sound Card Based LRC measurement

    Greetings All,

I've been lurking for awhile now and really appreciate all the good info you guys exchange in this forum! I've been winding pups off and on since 1980 or so and just been using mostly my ear and a VOM as an evaluation tools but as I grow older my high freq response is waining (the VOM is still working well!). As such I've been investigating some instrumentation so as to be able to compaire my old pups to the ones I'm making now a days. My question is does anyone have any experience using this computer soundcard based LRC "meter".

    http://www.virtins.com/

It appears you can set the freq to measure inductance with and the price is all right.

    Regards,

    Greg Meyer

The soundcard based LRC meter is currently a research project, and it may take some time to complete, never mind yield a workable instrument usable by other than the builders.

If you have product to get out the door, it would be best to get an Extech and be done with it.

      ...

Yeah but the Extech doesn't "see" up in the higher treble ranges, there's alot that it misses out on. Its a great instrument but the highest test signal is 1khz...

        LRC meter

        Greetings All,

I downloaded a evaluation copy of the above software and found it a bit of a pain to use and also was unable to get it to calibrate properly, so after an hour of screwing around with I said enough.

I did do some more investigating and found this LRC meter made by a company in England with worldwide distrubution.

        http://www.tti.co.uk/products-tti/pd...-lcr400-3p.pdf

It will measure at 100 Hz, 1k Hz, and 10k Hz. The price is £50 UK, so I went ahead and ordered one. (got my wife out of having to get me a Christmas present ;0).

I'll let you all know what it's like after I had a chance to play with it.

        Merry Christmas,

        Greg Meyer
