Ok, I've made a magnetizing jig... now what?

Yeah on a tele it does make the poles stronger at the top, doesn't matter what size pole, vintage is only .630" tall, I do some that are .75" tall.

Well, sure the pickup will be loudest with a full charged magnet, this is probably most noticeable in a humbucker, the single coils its less noticeable to me, but the difference in either isn't that much. I've been degaussing my PAF magnets to the charge I found in most of them and it actually gives you a better tonal range and you don't get that hot smash at the very end of the volume pot where it goes from a gradual taper to a big blast of volume. You also turn up louder to compensate and get better tone than a hot output will give you at the same volume. Probably most players like hot magnets, I usually do this on all my non-vintage buckers.

I think the thing with newly assembled parts has some weird kind of permeability thing, maybe the magnetic domains in the steel need to sorta break in to where they are going to be pointing, maybe its something to do with electrical resistivity, maybe it depends on the phase of the moon :-) Its very noticeable in my newest PAF buckers....
