  • Heres a question for ya - A3 vs A5 inductance

    I wound up two coils with the same diameter magnets, same length, same spool of wire.

    One was A5 one A3. The A3 had 4.2 H while the A5 had 3.6 H

    The pattern was different on the A5, but surely it doesnt account for that drop in inductance... so does A5 have less inductance because the magnetic field is stronger and reaches the edges of the coil more?

    It has nothing to do with gauss, the metal content is very different, A3 has no cobalt, A3 will always read darker on LCR meters, but I'm not real sure what is happening in the treble range where most LCR meters don't read. You'll also notice the AC resistance is higher in A3.
