i'm still looking at this mojo bobbins and i can't believe why would anyone make bobbin like this:



both down corners are this shape, it is so difficult to wind it more than 5.000 turns, plus you can imagine how difficul is to wind this way



camparing this with montreux bobbin (reshaped edges on montreux bobbin)



this bobbins are killing me, i must hurry up this CAB molding ...

The WSC (Mojo) bobbins are made for PROFIT. They use as little plastic as possible, the cores are not solid. This saves plastic so you can make more bobbins with a certain amount of plastic than you could a solid core version with full ends on the bottom.

one bobbin is 5 grams, or less on this mojo bobbins. they sell 1 bobbin for 2$.

why even think to make this edges on the bottom trimmed
who will want to buy this cause allparts bobbins looks better for same price.
don't make sense to me

The issue is that thick and thin plastic sections behave differently in the injection molding machine, and things go better if all sections are about the same thickness. The savings in plastic material are a secondary benefit.

WSC and others make these bobbins as parts for their own range of pickups, or for other Asian pickup makers. They do not make these parts for the sake of selling them to people like us. The flat section on the bobbin has to do with what ever design they are using, not to save money on plastic.

The fact that they sell these parts is secondary to them making them for their own pickups.

If they made the core "hollow" it is just the way they made it, they weren't copying a Gibson part, and probably for the reasons Joe cited. That surely can't effect the tone at all anyway, as long as the core is the same thickness.

Like the OP, I also wish they wouldn't have clipped that bottom flange, it does make overwinding a "challenge", but not impossible.

Their price is good though.

When you think money, you're thinking too small, they are winding thousands and thousands of these, any small savings adds up to big savings over time and quantity. StewMac bobbins are a completely different design, pickups wound on both bobbins don't sound the same. The WSC are Korean made I think, StewMac's are Japanese made I think?

I think it's so they don't have to put the holes for lead wires in the mold. supposed to take leads out of the flat space. maybe......
