Hi all, I have a set of Tex-Mex Tele pickups (don't laugh please) to put in a junk parts Tele, and would like to fiddle with them a bit. Could I have your wisdom on these questions:
1) What are the big screws for in the back of the bobbin? Are they there to make up for the lack of a metal base plate like on vintage Tele pickups?
2) Do you think these pickups would be helped tonewise if I removed the big screws on the bottom and replaced them with a steel plate, modified to fit on the plastic bobbin?
3) Is it important to have the pickup height screws contact the metal base plate for any reason, or is a simple ground wire OK?
Thanks for all replies!
