  • What is this bobbin for?

    Hello All,

Ass many of you know I am working with a company to make Butyrate humbucker Bobbins. Well recently I requested they send me samples of EVERY pickup bobbin they manufacture so that I could see what they make. I'm still learning about the 90 years of pickup history so I dont know all the pickups out there. In the package I got these bobbins that look like mini P-90 bobbins. They're so cute! The core is is about the same height as a P-90.. Is this a design anyone is familiar with?

Does it fit neatly in a humbucker cover, like this?

Humbucker sized P90? Is the outside lenght short enough to fit in a HB cover? If so, that is my best bet.

Yeah it does fit in a humbucker cover, but with almost 1/8" to spare. Hmm I wonder if it would fit in a mini bucker case. I'll check that too.

Are those from Paxphil? I keep meaning to get some samples from them.

It looks like Paxphil also makes that bobbin (or "bobbings" as they say)

It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein

Yeah I noticed a lot of the pickups and parts are from Artec.

Does anybody know if the Paxphil product is good? Anyone know of any other suppliers like that? I've tried numerous types of searches on the web but all I get are pickup trucks. I suppose it's because most of the websites would be in Korean or Chinese or just have very poor spelling.

It looks like most of the pickups on the Paxphil catalog are made by Artecsound. They make a lot of the inexpensive pickups on the market... probably make the pickups for GFS too.
