  • Gibson Dirty Fingers Pickup Specifications

I am interested in the specifications of the Gibson Dirty Fingers and what luck you had winding one. I had an Epiphone Prophecy Les Paul Custom GX electric guitar that had them, but just could not get past the quality issues of the guitar and returned it to GC. I am interested in winding my own pickups and this is the pickup that interests me the most. Any help? I am using a converted sewing machine to scatter wind with.

    Thanx ahead of time.

I am looking for specifications not opinion

I have used the search feature and I am looking for actual specifications, most of what I found are opinions. Opinions are interesting but do not answer questions like: wire gauge, number of wraps, coil offset.... What I did find was that Dirty Fingers have 3 ceramic magnets in a n-s, s-n, n-s configuration, that helps define the specification for a Dirty Finger humbucker. That is what I am asking for. As to someones opinion on what sounds good or constitutes a hot humbucker, that makes for interesting reading but does not define the specification for a particular pickup.

Again, thanx in advance for any pertinent iformation on the specifications for a the Gibson Dirty Finger pickup.

Of particular note, in the first thread, is Nightwinder's breakdown of the specs of one. I believe it's the last post.

also look at the package label in the second link that Possum supplied...it has inductance, resonant peak readings, etc...

You gotta dig bro....a lot of times the answers are spread out among various threads.

Ok, you are right, most of the info is there. It looks like I will need 44 awg wire and a good estimate as to how many windings it will take to get me to ~8K for each coil. Do you have a good equation that gets me in the neighborhood. Then I can do the scrape and measure to zero in on exact values.

            Thank You

                Ceramic magnets???

Where can I buy ceramic magnets? Actually where is a good source for bobbins, magnets .....????? Where is a good source of pickup building parts in general and not Stemac.

                Thank You
