  • Which Neodynium?

Which Neodymium do you think I should buy to magnetize regular PU magnets?

    1 - K&J Magnetics - Products

    2 - Forcefield - Otherpower - Wondermagnet Online Store

    3 - NEODYMIUM MAGNET, 3" X 9/16" X 1/8" | AllElectronics.com

I have used the ones from All Electronics, works very well. It's also the right size to cover the entire pickup at once. I used 4 all together, two stacked together for each polarity.

      Thanks for your reply.
What's the reason fort stacking the magnets? More "power"?

I've got 4 3/4" x 1/8" thick round disk shaped neos (side by side) on either side of a drill press vise. seems to work fine so far. I'll attach the bar to one side and then close the vise so both sets of magnets are touching either side of the bar to be magnatized. I'll leave it in there for maybe a minute.

Well I can't say that I tried it with only two magnets. I just happen to order 4 and decided to stack them. I was probably thinking more power. More is better.....right?

Is there any pics out there on construction?

How do you actually do the magnetizing thing

              Bjorn,
get a good sized magnet to begin with. It's much easier to be sure that your magnets are fully charged if you hit them with 10x or 100x what you think you need. Neos are so cheap that it's silly to take any chances.
              The best deal i've found domestically is Radial Magnet Inc - 2" x 2" x 1"(A) N35 Nickel Plated

That bad boy should take care of all your magnetizing needs (though it may attract alien invaders as well.) Just use some common sense around it as it can get very painful have something that powerful smash your finger or shatter when it hits a solid ferrous object. My current magnetizing rig makes use of a 1/2 ton arbor press to conduct the field from a single magnet. I made some focussing anvils from old woofer iron cores and they work exceedingly well.

                Good Size magnet

That a good size all right

Yes, I can understand the logic in that. But I would need two magnets, wouldn't I?

You need to make a jig with two of these babies:

                  Be careful handling'em... VERY careful.

I'd make a jig with FOUR of those. Sweet!
