Butyrate Humbucker coils--from where?

Hello--I'm Dave and I'm new to the forum. Does anyone know where to buy Humbucker coils made from Butyrate? I understand that Butyrate was what the original PAF's were made of. I've seen that some Large manufacturers of pickups tout some of their PAF Clones to be made of Butyrate. I wonder where they get them??

if they have the money they can get anything made exclusively, all it takes is deep pockets and you can have anything you want made here or China or Korea or Japan....

Thats true--I was just hoping they were offered already from from one of the manufacturers. I have'nt seen any where I know to look.

I brought some bobbins down to a local plastic injection house today to ask for quotes, if I have my own mould made. I asked for quote in whatever material they're currently made from, and in Butyrate as well.
I wanted to know how many I'd have to buy to get them under $1 per pair.

I should know in a week or so.

Well the real truth is that most of what a hobbyists can buy is all the stuff thats not top of the line, alot of it is pretty cheesy garbage, its like stuff they are overstocked with and trying to get rid of. Tele base plates are a good example, no one sells any that are decent at all. Guitar Jones aren't bad but they don't really fit in tele bridge plates for some reason the holes are in the wrong place and alot of non-essential holes added. Fralin has his made and probably everyone else that has the bucks to fund decent parts.

Hey Wolfe, I inquired about having EMG/Bartolini style covers made not long ago, and the big cost seemed to be the tooling.. which was about $2,500-3,000. After that the covers would be about $0.60 each, less in quantity. This was for a cover with an embossed logo, so something like a humbucker bobbin would likely be cheaper.

It was the tooling cost that prevented me from going that route at the moment...

If you can handle the tooling cost, it seems like a great idea.

I've got about $15,000 I need to blow before the end of the year, so that won't be an issue.

And yes, I would not mind allowing mould useage or selling parts "at cost" for someone who wants to chip in a couple grand towards the tooling cost.
