I have some chrome plated polepieces and I think they make the tone of the pickup sound bright and harsh compared to a comparable screw that is not chrome plated.

Anyway, we all use nickel plated slugs and screws, but the screws and slugs themselves are steel. The metal needs to be magnetic in order for the slugs and screws to work.
I forgot brass isnt magnetic but never thought about it being plated. Thanks for the input.

EMG is using austenitic stainless for their new "chome" and "gold" pickup cases. The "chrome" is just polished stainless, and the gold has a TiN (titanium nitride) coating, like they use on drill bits.It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein
