  • Maple spacer sourcing

Forgive the potentially silly question, but does anyone have a reliable line on getting vintage-style maple spacers? Or is this something I could pick up from a local parts store and cut to spec?

I am pretty sure that everyone here makes thier own... If you don't have a thinkness sander then I would be willing to make a bunch and send them your way for pretty cheap. PM me if you are interested.

Maple cut accurately to small size is a staple of hobby stores, used for making models. Relatively expensive, but very convenient for a few parts.

I've got a bunch of PAF spec spacers that I made. send me a PM and I can send you some. I make them from Western Maple. Dirt cheap wood - 1.85 a board foot. I copied the spacer in my PAF.

          ...

I haven't tried this yet but am going to......maple is pretty easy to find in the right thickness. Do you have a router? On Ebay you can buy small circular saw blades and arbor you can use with adapter in a router. Set it up and just slide your stock through, using your fence to hold vertically. I already have the saw blades, they came in a set of four from an ebay seller and look pretty good. You can also get a small table saw from Micromark for about $200 that should do a decent job of slitting stock too.....

I have one of those. I use it all the time. I use it to make bobbin parts and cut circuit boards too.

You can get thick maple veneer and saw it into strips. (my old patent label pickups had mahogany spacers)

I actually have this one... same saw and it's cheaper! They are now $109!

I've got a Proxxon saw like that too, but it's gray instead of green.

Mine's green just like the picture. Nice little saw. I use two different blades depending on what I'm cutting.
