Hmmm, now you've got me interested. I picked up a roll of PN155 Elektrisola #43 and #42 for $8 (Cdn) lb. The #43 is green. I'm trying a rewind of a Turser Tele bridge with that stuff first.

    Redhouse,
Those pickups on the Strat are simply gorgeous. Where did you get the covers? I've never seen anything like them.

The color of the insulations are usually the temperature rating. Most of the rolls I have are red, but this roll is clear.

I wound another pickup, winding much slower so I could lay down the wire in a less scattered pattern, and tighter, and I got that to fit in the cover, but that doesn't help me with the bridge pickup, which has more turns.

So I ordered some more 42 from somewhere else.

I'm curious to hear this pickup.

        Thanks Mark.

They started out as Strat "lipstick-tube" pickup covers , then I flattened the tops with a makeshift die, then punched the holes.

(see more here: Punching Cover Holes)

The covers are made of chrome plated yellow brass. The 42H works well with these covers, you have to have a bit more treble and mids in your coil before you drop a metal cover over them, then everything comes out right.

Here's how they are supposed to look in a Strat (before alteration):

Hey Brad, you still didn't tell where you got those covers.

So I would a couple of pickups with the 42H, and I like what I hear. I actually would up two Jazz pickups.... but I had to wind them lower than normal, and also I changed the core... so I don't know which of the three changes made the biggest difference, and it might be a combination of all three.
