I've been thinking about these grades....it seems to me the more resistant to demagnetization a magnet is the harder edge its going to have tonally, its like sag in tube amps, no sag and you get an amp that is unpleasant to play. I put a Weber Copper Cap solid state rectifier in my deluxe reverb and hated it. Would be interesting to get the highest and the lowest grade of one alnico and I'd bet thats what you would hear....

The reason you didn't like that Weber Copper Cap was because your amp uses the 5U4GB tube rectifier, and the particular Copper Cap we tried was the WZ34, which emulates the tube GZ34. The tube 5U4GB has a lot more sag than the tube GZ34. If we had used the Weber Copper Cap that emulates the 5U4GB you'd be hard pressed to tell a difference. It drops around the same voltage and has the same characteristics as the tube.

I may a little late here, but you will always spec anisotropic magnetizing for products in this market.

Ted, I had no idea you were a member here, welcome! They don't BAN members here like some other unmentionable forums that I was also banned from practically at first log-in :-) I have your speakers in just about all my vintage Fender amps, good stuff!

I wonder if there is a chemical composition list of these different energy specs of same alnico grades....

Thanks for that - but yes all of them are Anisotropic - infact only the Alnico2,3 & and low powered 8 are available in Isotropic.

I might not be ordering from Sens as it turns out the original company I was speaking to who are considerably cheaper (let just say over 50% cheaper!) than Sens have been saying they can't produce the higher power Alnico 5-7, 8 & 9s in pickup size because they misunderstood I wanted them magnetising through the thickness opposed to the width! The fun of dealing with Chinese suppliers!

As for the composition make up of them - I can always ask and I'm sure they'll supply.

It seems most are reluctant to give specific chemistry mix numbers, cycle temperatures, and cycle times. It's appears to be a trade secret, just like the mix in cone and spider manufacturing.

If your magnets are only .125" thick you can't get them magnetized through the thickness, they would be horribly weak and almost useless and may not even hold a charge for very long. Even .25" thick is too shallow. If you don't have the space you might want to consider using ceramic instead, but even there .125" is probably too shallow. Who is the other magnet co. you mentioned? You can PM me if you want. Have you tried any of their magnets?

I never did figure that out. He's got a strange attitude about forum management. He said since I was replying to questions about our products, I was essentially advertising (I always signed "Ted" and never put a big splash icon up with my signature).. and yet he decided that I needed to give him $200 a month to advertise. He said Naylor, CE, and all the others were paying that. Very difficult to believe that.

I have your speakers in just about all my vintage Fender amps, good stuff!

As soon as they have confirmed everything I will let you know. Like I say they don't usual do pickup magnet so it's been a bit of a painful experience. However they seem to be understanding things now so once it's all confirmed I will duly provide a link (and see if I can some discount for providing them some more business!!! )
