This is an old thread I know.
    My question about Alnico is.
Can Alnico be heated some then reoriented?
    Perhaps demagnetize it some first?

Yes, all you need is a magnetizer. First you must deplete the original charge, then reverse the magnet and re-charge it.

But, the question is... why in earth would you wanna reorient a magnet??????

I don't want to reverse it, I can do that.
I want to reorient a bar magnet to magnetize the flats, not the edges.
I haven't figured out how to do that.

Oh, I see... I don't think you can do it with an A5 magnet, though. You could either try with an A2, an A4 or an UnOriented A5.

You know that Alnico needs a certain geometry to keep the charge, right? If you're talking 'bout a normal humbucker bar magnet, I don't think it'll retain a big charge if you reorient it 90° from the original, and even if it does, it won't keep it for very long.

I stil have some of those crappy short T-Top mags that can't hold a charge for longer than three months, and won't even stick to the fridge after a year!

I suspect they've been treated in the way you're planning to. I can be wrong, though; unfortunately I lost contact with my old italian mag specialist, so I can't ask him about the feasibility of what you're asking about.
