  • Forbon

    Hey all,

I've never worked with forbon before and was thinking about buying a batch of the stuff. I noticed in the pickup makers FAQ that NVF (the inventor) isnt listed. Has anyone purchased from them? Is there a reason why not? I tried calling them but so far voicemail hell has thwarted me

Most of us are too small to cast a shadow on their front walkway. Good luck.

I am in process of getting some more forbon and thought I might try some new sources.

The link or eis seems to be broken or they are out of business, and I have called otswire and they don't seem to stock it any longer.

Will post if I find other good sources.

Michael Gurian has the stuff, he gets it from a few different sources including NVF .. He says thier customer service was horrible and he generally buys from other places. He's got it in sheets and rolls so it nice and flat. He's got both grey and black. Now im not sure if he'd sell you pieces, but he will laser cut to your specs.

Gurian sounds like a good bet if you don't own a laser. OTS may order it if you are willing to buy full sheets. EIS left Portland many years ago, I don't know if the company still exists elsewhere.

I tried all day to get ahold of NVF.

Thier E-mail is broken (Bounces), thier 1800 number was hacked and forwarded to a scam in florida, thier regular number worked, but the extensioned listed on thier website said not in service, one of thier fax numbers was not in service, and no one answered thier main line when you press zero.

I finally got one fax to go through, so I wrote on a piece of paper in big letters. "SOMEONE CALL ME, ALL I WANT TO DO IS BUY SOMETHING.. 555-1212"

            still no call back.

            -1 for them so far.

I talked to ots and they were supposed to look into it and call me back.... still waiting.

Gurian has decent prices to cut bobbins for you. There is a setup charge if you need something out of the ordinary, but it's reasonable.

              Sheets is all I need.

I'm glad OTS has worked out for some people. I sold a computer to the owner (Ralph Cuppoletti) several years back, and then fixed several mor eof his computers, and I talked to him about supplying magnet wire to guys here, and I guess they carry other stuff now, or not...hehe. I haven't been involved in it is a couple years, but I'm glad that some were able to get something of value from it.

Well, there's your problem - you provided one of those fake phone numbers like they use in the movies. Sheesh.

                        .....

Lollar said they are out of business, Forbon is gone forever. There are alternatives but they are all different. I still have several sheets left from five years ago I'm hanging onto for NOS value on high end relic pickups I'm going to be doing. Sucks that its another American industry down the toilet. They were hit by a flood years ago and guess they never really recovered from that one maybe....

I didn't see any prices, except on the Ordering webpage which mentioned a $200 minimum order on laser cut products. What kind of price are you getting on cut forbon Strat/Tele bobbins?

I see they used to make parts for Nordstrand.

If I remember correctly, the average price was around $1.98 per part. The tops were a little less and the bottoms a little more.
