  • can this be used as\converted to be a pickup winder?

    This.

The reason I'm asking is because this happens to be local so I wouldn't have to pay shipping (although sales tax is probably just as much) and the price is right.

If so, what would I have to do to make it usable for pickup winding?

Anyways, thank you in advance for any help!

There was some discussion about these winders on the forum here. One member bought one, but not everything works on them, and/or some parts were missing.

The Durant counter is worth $600 new.

If you don't mind some tinkering/fixing it could make a nice winder.
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein

Alright cool, my dad is a machinist so if tinkering needed to be done to make functional he could definitely help me as he is very handy with mechanical stuff. Thanks! This won't be the last you guys see of me, you guys are awesome and this forum is very informative.

It looks serviceable to me. That place had dozens of other winders listed, you might want to look through them all (with your dad) before deciding.

Make sure they aren't 3 phase if you plan to use them at home.

I bought two of these because I thought the price was hard to beat. I don't have a need for them yet but they are super cheap so why not? I got them but they are very, very rough. I have not even tried to switch them on. Remington Industries still makes a version of this machine that costs just under $4000.00. I'm pretty sure I saw a Tonequest article that featured Jason Lollar and they showed a photo of this machine in the write up. Maybe he has some info on getting them running.
They don't make them like they used to... We do.
