  • Lipstick pickup for BASS

I have an old Dano bass missing one Lipstick pick. The Bass has longer pickups than anything currently available. Does anyone make a period correct Lipstick P/U ? I tried Seymour and even Modern Danolectro pickups, too short.

    Thanks,

I measured the lipstick on my 60's Dano bass, another vintage one, and a bunch of the reissues. All were 3 1/4" long. I had always understood that Danelectro used the same pickups for basses and guitars. If yours are longer than 3 1/4", I'd guess it was either a prototype, or short lived version. Is it possible someone widened the cutouts? Did you look at the Duncan version for Strat, which is shorter?

Just did a more accurate measure. they're all 3 3/16"

It is a jaguar body style, might be a later model. The regular lipsticks are too short.

It has not been modified other than the removal of the original pu and metal surround, by me years ago. I mounted the original into a 1930's Dobro. Sounds great. Now I wish I had used an after market pu. I have purchased after market lipsticks and that is when I discover the difference in size.

A couple of the old ones I measured were from a Jag style Vincent Bell with the metal surrounds. Same at 3 3/16". How long is the other pickup on yours?

Did you buy a lipstick tube for a Strat? They are shorter.

You can get the longer ones.
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein

You mean "Coral", I think. I have found Subway to be extremely un-helpful when trying to source vintage parts. I know they've got bins full of what I need, but they've always gone out of their way to not help me when I've called.

Well, I finally got around to measuring the pickup and it is 3 1/4" . I must have been sent a pu for a strat. So, I guess I just need a regular Lipstick pu after all.
