[Sock Puppet]

Hi,

I have one of these "Acoustic Tube" pickups a friend asked me to look at.
It has the correct impedance (3.8k) but very low output and a little hum although it's supposed to be a stacked humbucker.

Unfortunately I can't get it apart without destroying it!

Has anyone had one of these through their hands?

I haven't had one of those but I used to own a Woody with the adjustable hex screws, and it was low output and hums. So does my Duncan Performer Maverick. However I tried running the Maverick into my POD XT and messing with the acoustic models and noise gate\compressor and got a useable tone with little hum. I think they use less winds\lower gauge wire for more clarity, but that and being farther from the strings than it probably should be makes for low output and more noticeable hum. Not to mention there's no string ground on acoustics.

Right now I'm using a Low Impedance humbucker I wound and running that through a mic preamp.

Thanks man! Come to think of it, those are probably wired in parallel (7 K per coil, probably 43-44 AWG) so it will have a lower inductance and impedance (and theoretically less hum) than an average stacked pickup which from my experience are normally wired in series. I bet it's pretty bright sounding, at least on the B and high E strings?
