  • Hobbyist from Calgary

I found this site by googling "pickup winders".

I don't have any opinions, and I don't know anything, just came here to learn.

By the way, I purchased a set of J S Moore Tele pickups over a year ago, have not yet had a Tele in which to install them.

    ...

For God's sake buy a tele quick!!! Don't know how you could stand not having that pickup being used :-) Welcome to the pickup maker's hell forum. If you plan on making pickups search the forum for information, so much has been repeated over and over. The relevant questions come after you've wound a few and start to get a grip on things. Visit the Showcase if you want to see what the ones of us who sell stuff are doing, and some hobbyists too. Enjoy

      Welcome

This is a great place, and we do end up repeating ourselves a lot. Search the forum voraciously, check out Steven Kerstings page (skguitar.com I think) and read all of his stuff, and then make a pickup. It's all theory until the hair sized wire is whistling through your fingers....

        Hey Rhh7,

welcome. I'm still pretty new here too. I'm in Vancouver. Our band is playing in Calgary in march for a local Calgary band's (Knucklehead) 15 year anniversary show.

This place is a great spot to cut your teeth.

Try burning your fingers! I'd prefer whistling.

funny you'd say that, it happened to me when I tried some 38awg. needless to sy, I relaxed my grip. I didn't wanna scare off the newbie!

Hmmm.. I've found relaxing the grip feels more like the real thing.
It's when I switch hands that I feel dynamicly estranged.
                  Today is a good day.

I have more problems with finger burning with the thin stuff. I use 40 AWG on some pickups. That feels really funny passing through your fingers.

I also notice Elecktrasola feels nicer than Essex wire. Now that's what I call cork sniffing!
