    Split

I mean the position that is both pickups on ..... split between both pickups.

1- HB neck - some hum
    2 - Both pickups - quiet
3 - Single coil bridge - less hum than the HB

tap tested ( with a metal probe ) both pickups so I know they are not reversed at the switch. Also did continuity test.

I went ahead and added ground wires to the tone pots so all pots are to a common ground. No help.

Bridge is grounded, jack is grounded, switch is grounded, all pots are grounded.

??? Will turning the screws ( magnets ) to change their orientation, have an effect on slight hum.... I wonder.
    Pots all measure correct resistance.
Maybe I am being too critical on this hum.... it is subtle, but i thought humbuckers are usually dead quiet.

I have this open if you can suggest any further tests.

    thanks Ange

      Odd

Ok here is something telltale. When I back off the Vol pot to 8 for the HB ( which is a replacement 1 meg ) the hum goes away!!

        am I missing something

Like to know why that wire is going into the pot and what is the idea of the links from the wiper to the outer leg of the tone pots.
        Ain't never done that before.

          me too

yeah, got rid of the extra wire from the wiper into the body.... I think that was sloppy work when the pot was changed out. New sherif in town. I am told by a reliable source that the jump from the wiper to the outer lugs on the tone pots makes it a true variable resistor and does not harm.

Ah.. try changing the 1M to a 500K and see if that helps.

              resistor

What about a 100 ohm resistor at the 1 meg ground wire??

                onward

Ok, i swapped out the cheapo ( old replacement ) 1 meg vol pot for the WRHB with a CTS 1 MEG which did clean things up a bit, but my sense is that this specific vintage design is a pretty hot pickup and will draw some noise unlike a traditional HB. Or am I not understanding this design. I thank you all for your assitance.... I'm gonna live with it for now, unless someone with a circa 74-76 WRHB tells me that, that pickup is dead quiet even in the OD mode. Mine is quiet now in clean but still a bit of hum in OD

                cheers Ange

I reason I said to change the 1M to 500K is I've read of people reporting hum problems with 1M pots, and also they are brighter when on 10, but get dull quickly when you turn them down, due to the way they act as a voltage divider.
