  • Magnet Comparison Chart

I remember finding a chart a while back on the information super highway that compared pickup magnets in terms of tone. I know gauss has a lot to do with tone, but I'm trying to put together a reasonably accurate reference that I can refer to when deciding on what magnet to use for a particular wind. Kind of like pairing wine with a dish I guess.

Does anyone know of a chart out there that explains the tonal differences? Even if it's marketing blather.

    ...

Alnico 5 pairs well with rare hamburgers and hot relish and jalapeno pepper dip.
Alnico 4 is great with tacos and beer, with a zest of lime.
Alnico 3 goes well with Creme De Menthe and a few puffs off the opium pipe, raw oysters and mediterranean sauces...
Alnico 2 combines well with hot dogs, saerkraut and chili.
Alnico 8 mixes radically with meatball hoagies, smothered in onions, with fries and cocaine and a tall espresso.
Ceramic C8 just plain doesn't mix well with anything except blackboard chalk ground up in a goat's milk smoothie with pickles on top and Pepto Bismol aperitif....

I LOVE it! I've been trying to find a way to describe to my few customers what different magnets can do for them. I found that chart on Rockmonkey pickups site Here's a screen shot of it. The problem is tone is so subjective that the usual words like "warm" and "spongy" tend to be inadequate. But using food... that's just plain brilliant. Maybe I'll name my pickups after different wines. The hottest would be the Thunderbird. The medium would be the Chianti and the low would be the Bordeaux.

My last name is pronounced as the sandwich above, I was nicknamed meatball by a buddy, and I really dig alnico 8 and expresso. (no experience with the coca).

Possum you must be psychic, or was it psychotic....?

          What about CuNiFe?
Isn't it so antiquely american that you pair it steak, mashed potatos, velveeta cheese, and a Schlitz beer?

"Det var helt Texas" is written Nowegian meaning "that's totally Texas." When spoken, it means "that's crazy."

They started making it again last year.
