  • Vintage P-90 frame question.

Does anyone know what type of P-90 this may be? I never saw one with the frame edges bent up like this one.

Someone mangled it. You can see where the pliers bit into the plating and exposed brass. Looks like they were trying to make it sit higher on bare wood I bet...
Also I can't really see rest of the bottom but it looks like the screws were cut off short on the bottom? That would explain the bent tabs too....

Yes , upon closer inspection I can see the pliers marks. The pole piece screws seem fine. Thanks Possum.

If you remove a screw pole the shank should be 3/4" long. It looks to me like the screws should be protruding out the bottom more....

Thanks, the pole pieces are fine and they are 3/4 of an inch.

Looks like older Gibson to me. Ditto on someone bending the frame.

Perhaps the modification was probably done to make the pickup fit in an existing route, not for height reasons. I say this because I cut off the corners (and edges) of a P90 baseplate a while back so it would fit into the route of a 1960 Melody Maker. The pickup was of my own creation, not a vintage one, of course.

Okay- I plead guilty! I have bent the tabs on some of my dogears so that the top is parallel with the strings. Isn't that how you are supposed to do that? (Of course, I try to not leave any marks or bruises when I get my pliers out! )
