True, line 48 in section 2 starts the paragraph off: "The use of a double-coil pickup, whether the coils are arranged in a side-by-side relationship..." sounded like he was lumping in the PAF there. Sounded like it was saying the firebird style with the magnet in the bobbin was better than PAF style because of the effect the screws and slugs would have.

I want to try to make something like this for a mandolin I'm building but I was thinking of making it all on a magnet, not with the polepieces like the patent or with a big blade like you tried.
