  • What size magnets would i need for blues 90's?

    Like these pickups.

    I mean the pole pieces.

    A lot of pickup makers make those, I was going to but never got around to it. They are 3/16" diameter, don't know what length for sure. Its not a new idea and Gibson actually made a few like those way back when, though I am not 100% sure alnico rods, they could have been steel slugs with bar magnets. Just drill out your P90 bobbin with 3/16" drill.

        It's just a rod magnet P90, basically a cross between a Fender pickup and a P90. I've made some and probably a bunch of other guys in here have too. To my ear they sound more Fendery than P90-ish.

          I think the ones Gibson made were right before the staple alnico pickup, they probably thought the rod version was too bright; they are pretty rare and only used in archtop guitars.... The staple version covered more of the string length so were quite so edgy.
