hi everyone, i'm new here just stumbled onto this site and am looking for help. i have a gibson t-top pat # pickup , i need help with getting it working again. i will give you a run down on it. o.k the magnets work, i have taken the pup apart and measured each coil, they work as well. each bobbin (coil) has a black wire and a white wire coming out of it. a start and a finish on each. i assume one black and one white get connected, then one wire goes too ground and the other is hot , right? but when i hook it all up and check on the meter it reads 2.4 k ohms ? what am i doing wrong? i assume it is a grounding problem. but i can't figure out why? i've re-done it several times all with the same result. any help would be apprecited i'm stumped !

You are wiring them up in parallel, and not series.
The way they are wired up is start on the north magnetic polarity coil is hot. The finish on that coil connects to the finish on the South coil, and the start on the South coil is ground.

i have never examined a t top but the start should come out of the little square hole on the bottom of the bobbin, or if it don't it might be under the wire toward the bottom of the bottom ,either way with a multimeter try them different ways you should be able to hook it up rite ....this might help

there is no need too remove the tape.the wires are poking out the side. it doesn't look as if the wires ever exited a hole. i have repaired a couple of ibanez super 70's before, they only had 1 inch of lead wire so i changed that. those were easy too do, it is just this one had me stumped. and the info was really helpfull, i will likely try the different wiring tonight. oh and yes the super 70' survived too rock another day, they work perfectly in my 74 ibanez destroyer.

o.k so i got the t-top working! wow it sounds awesome! turns out it was a ground problem with the braided wire. so i changed out the wire and boom, nice pickup. so i have another question though. if i reversed the wires (going too ground and the hot) would it change the tone? i put the wire from slug too hot , and the screw wire to ground.if i reversed it would it change the tone is what i'm getting around too.?
