  • gold covers

Here are some images that a customer sent me after having his pickups for about a week. You can see how the gold wore off. They are WSCs from what I can tell. I know some of the deterioration has to do with how acidic a person's hands/sweat are but I would of thought that the plating would of lasted longer than a week.

Last time I checked, Stewmac had schallers gold covers. The only problem with them is that they aren't as deep as these. I'm having the customer send them back so that i can reinstall the schallers.

The schallers were nickel-silver through and through with no copper plating. I tore one apart to check a while ago.

I've got a box full of schaller chrome covers. i'd have to check but I think there are like 30 in there which I bought direct from schaller. I'll sell them for what I paid for them if you want to have them re-plated. Though really with your volume you could buy covers direct from schaller and get them to toss in a few gold. I have a very good relationship with them and can introduce you if need be. We've been doing business with them for almost 30 years on and off.

I just finished a guitar with some guitarjones covers. Within 10 days they looked worse than these ones pictured.

$80 for gold plating here... gotta bite the bullet so the customer isnt put out too much...
