Well, I went to my Master's shop today to spend some time with him, and talk about getting a better polish on the humbucker covers. He had some good advice to give, but I think I might hire him on occasionally to come in and do some polishing in-house, which takes up a good chunk of my time...
While there, I took a bunch of pictures.
For those who have been over here, now you know where I get my keen sense of..organization! :P

Arriving at the run-down looking ranch, in the middle of a local Indian reservation. I helped move all this shit in here years and years ago, when the town of Marysville kicked Jess out...

Shop hours. Much like my own.


I spent many, many hours seated right here...gettin' dirty, and burning the shit out of my hands on hot steel. When it's too hot to hold, you know the steel is too hot, and will start to affect the temper of the metal. Polishing a sharp blade...extremely dangerous.


Klingon bat'leth. We made many of these, for both the shows and the movies.

The smaller anvil is about 150 pounds. The large one as I recall was 600.

I've been kinda embarrassed to show my working space after some of you posted shots of shops that look like every item was in its perfect place, YOU GUYS ARE SICK! So here it is, I proudly present "the mess....." And YES I do know where everything is.....uh, can any of you spot the small pair of tweezers I misplaced? And no you can't see my winder, its in Area 51, you need a security clearance....

I do have some garage space but its freezing in there, too cold to wind pickups plus only half of it is mine, wife has the other half, both are messy too. Even though my work space is organized to my own eye, my products are meticulous and thats what counts.....

You mean pattern welded steel, right? No one knows how they made real Damascus steel. Under an electron microscope they have discovered clear evidence of carbon nanotubes and nanowires! Weird stuff.

Yes it's not fair, i'd be where you live, may be i would own a place and not rent it. And it's freezing in the whole 32sq M in the winter usualy but now i try to keep it around 11° So the glue doesn't freze, and the hard bit is to keep it about 50% RH to build guitars I'm paying 194 dols per month for this place, plus electricity, and i had to pour the concrete slab myself.

Actually I think your space is about as messy as Wolfe's space....but they're both functional which is the important part. Yours is at least warmer than Wolfe's space.

Winder's over on the yellow workforce bench, tweezers are in the polythene CD thing next to the wire strippers where you left them

Thanks man!!! I've been looking for those things for months!!! Yes Greg has seen the "X" winder, I have planted an explosive device in his brain that will detonate if he ever mentions its details. Greg dropped a tiny nut on the floor saturday and it has yet to appear....

Actually the mess gets to me sometimes and I spend the whole night cleaning up and finding stuff I thought I'd never see again. Space is the problem, as the pickup room is also the graphics room where I do all the record label work. There's 3 computers in the room, my hi fi and tv. The thing you see with all the parts in cubbyholes used to be used as a CD cabinet for the thousands of CD's I have, but it sorta got taken over. I would love to have a dedicated pickup making space, warm and cooled in summer with everything in its place......but I'd probably mess that up too :-)
