Does anyone have another source for Elektrisola 43 PE? MWS is back 6 weeks! Someone bought them out and the back log I'm told is 4,000 lbs. Could use something else but I would like to stick with what I'm used to.

    Thanks,
    Jeff

Elektrisola is the only wire manufacturer producing PE, according to MWS. Through email communication Elektrisola acquired REA wire, so I guess Elektrisola is just the parent company.

MWS estimated ship date for 43PE nom/min is 2nd week of june, as of today. They have plenty of 43PE nom/max and 43PE full range in stock.

That's what they told me too. I haven't used nom/max or full range, what's the difference between nom/max and full range? I know the OD of the nom/max is bigger than the nom/min, but don't know about full range. Approximately how many turns would you lose on a typical humbucker bobbin, or how much resistance would you lose? (assuming a fully wound bobbin).

        Thanks, Jeff

Whoa! They are probably talking about wire diameter, not musical pitch and tone.

I'm sure they're talking about the tolerance range on the diameter. "Full range" means min/max. That is, the actual diameter will be between the min and max specs for that gauge, but could vary anywhere within that range throughout the spool. It's a wider tolerance range than either nom/min or nom/max. It's probably less expensive, if you're not as fussy.

Isn't that exactly what we want to recreate old pickups for old folks that aren't as fussy?

There's a marketing angle there somewhere...

"Our pickups are just as sloppy in construction as the legendary old pickups were."

                  or

"We precisely measured the poor tolerances in classic old pickups and replicated them exactly."

                  or

"Less fussy pickups for less fussy players."
