Seems like a lot of extra blank lines and double line spacing in all the posts even in printer friendly view.
I haven't decided yet if it's just the different look that's annoying or an option I have incorrect set.
All the same good (and free) information is still here and is much appreciated.

I don't see them @ home, Win7 with FFox/AdBlocker Plus installed. I'd see them @ work using IE7 and whatever firewall/broswer plugins the tech dweebs deliver to us.

I see them. What browser are you using?
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein

Well, I'm on my computer at home and I notice that Dave's post no.36 has a large square banner ad in its right hand side, which squashes the text over to the left.

At work, the firewall must remove those ads, leaving a blank space, so it looks like the post is wrapping early. Maybe the people who complained of early wrapping are also using ad blockers.

Except now, I looked again, the ad is gone but the post is still squished. OK, I got it. Maybe the ads disappear when you're logged in, but the white space where they fit in doesn't disappear.

There is no ad and no blank space on the right in my view of Dave's post #36.

Try adjusting the resolution of your monitor. When I created my Flying V forum a while ago, the skin that I added to the vBulletin software was doing some funky things with regard to how things appear on the screen. I had to adjust the resolution to get ads and sidebars to fit/lay out correctly.

What tboy did was download a skin to the vBulletin forum software. Skins are basically a template or add-on. The templates have specific themes, colors, and icons, etc

tboy, how do you keep all the spam out of the forums? I closed mine down because I couldn't keep up with all the spam coming from China and Russia. The clever dogs have created robot software that automatically creates an account and places spam in the forum threads.

There is no ad but there is the white space for me at home - Win7, Firefox 3.6.2 with AdBlock Plus. Weird

I'm also using Firefox and AdBlock.
Anyway the 28_space_column_width appears on some posts and not on others, on the same page.
I guess (really don't know) that "ads that help pay the forum" would always appear, wouldn't they?

                    I'm at 1344 X 1008, so that's not the issue.

Funny thing is I went back and edited that post and added a period after the quote tag, and it stopped wrapping short, but then after I posted it it was back to the way it is. I tried it a few times, and it always reverted to being short.

Wel, now, by mistake, I have a partial answer.
I clicked the wrong Firefox profile , the one used by my Son including Rikaichan and Japanese dictionary but not AdBlock, and entered this forum.
There, in all its glory, I saw a 28 space formatted column, leaving a lot of space on its right, so I could see a beautiful Adobe Flash 9 ad for Michael Jackson's next film there.
And obviously it serves locally addressed ads, because it was in Spanish, although my OS, Firefox and mostly everything else is in English.
*Part* of the mystery somewhat solved.
Now I'll install "Contrôle de Scripts" to try to stop those ads, not only from appearing but also from reserving space, which they obviously do.

I'm not seeing an ad there, but I see the ad at the top of the page. Normally I use a Safari extension called Saft to block ads, but it's not working since I updated Safari.

[edit] I see this post also ended up short!

When I'm in edit mode with the other post it looks like this:

Name:	Picture 4.png
Views:	1
Size:	65.7 KB
ID:	818611

There must be a glitch in the code somewhere.

                        [edit 2]

Now it's not short anymore since I added that last line of text.

Ok, got a chance to do a backup image (Ghost), and installed FF 3.6.3.

I'm not seeing the weird spacing in the posts now.

                            With AdBlock turned off

Hi David, here you have what I get with AdBlock turned off.
I also see the banner type Google ad you refer to.
If I turn it on, the ad is not seen, but the space for it is still reserved, causing those narrow columns which make reading difficult.
I'm sure now that those mysterious blank spaces are also reserved ad space.
It is as if not only the forum software was switched, but also servers , or at least the server "contract", allowing for a heavier ad load.
If somebody has a better theory, I'm all ears.

I'm noticing all the first posts, or first posts on a page, have the space. I guess it's for ads, but I still don't see any.

I can stand a little white space here and there if it means a few visitor click-thrus to adverts and help tboy keep this thing going.

Those of us who have benefitted from this forum, whether commercially or just from the satisfaction of a life enriched by a pretty cool hobby, might also take note of the little green "donate" button at the top of the page.
