N00b pickup winder

Hey all,

I just wound my first two single coils Stew Mac Kits with 42 awg.
I got 8000 winds on each, and both are roughly 5.8x k
I'm impressed at the consistency, but the windings on the sides are really loose, i can push them in a bit with my finger. I'm gripping the wire with felt.

Any suggestions you can give me?

do you winder have limiters ? to prevent the wire from getting too close to the edge & snaging on your bobbin if it does you could try to get it closer to the edge

I used to use felt, now I just let it run though my fingers. I can get more control with my fingers.

My fingers are really grippy and sweaty. I might have to try some talcum power on them or something to get it to slide nicer.

How fast are you winding? Try slowing it down to about 500 to 700rpm.
