I need some help rewinding the pickups in my old 1937 national Lap steel. The bridge PU is good and strong and reads 12K ohms but the 4 fingerboard coils give no normal reading, however switching to the 200meg value on my ohm meter I get 25-30meg readings.I figure the coils are shot my question can someone tell me the gauge wire these old PUs used ,my old Supro PU read about 5-6K so I think that's probably the range I should shoot for I would love any help or guidance anyone can give me.Cheers Kel.

Jason Lollar is pretty savvy on stuff like that, you might call or send him an email, don't be shy he's a nice guy and quite likely would have something to tell you. He is busy though so keep that in mind.

Welcome to the forum Kelvee. You can mic the existing wire to get the gauge, then unwind the coil and count the turns and get the turns per layer if it was machine wound. This is what I do when I get a rewind in that there are no specs. on.

          Because the coil is open.
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein
